Secure AccessWelcome to the Authentic Research Experiences (AREs) Portal.
AREs are inquiry-driven, project-based learning opportunities designed to prepare students for future careers in STEAM+Ag®. Students from middle school through college engage in authentic scientific practices where the outcomes are unknown—creating opportunities for discovery and contributions to research at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. At the undergraduate level, AREs are known as Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs), which involve more advanced research processes.
AREs align with multiple learning standards and can be integrated into classroom curricula or informal learning environments. Educators participate at no cost and receive professional development, training, research supplies, visits from scientists, and implementation support.
We invite you to sign up and explore both the Educator and Student Portals! With an ARE Portal account, educators gain access to teaching resources and scientific support, while students enter authentic research data and complete surveys that track their learning gains. Both students and educators can download the research data, and educators can monitor student progress in real time.
Join us in preparing the next generation of plant and agricultural scientists by giving students the opportunity to conduct authentic collaborative research, deepen their plant science and technology knowledge, interact with Danforth scientists, and share their results with the broader community.
The ARE portal was made possible through the generous support of the Saigh Foundation.
